Osun Decides........Matters Arising..
By Abdulhamid A. Ibrahim.
The declaration today that the much contested Gubernatorial election in Osun State did not come as a surprise owing to very many occurrences witnessed just before the election.
First, there was the internal rancour stemming from perceived imposition of candidate.This saga saw many party faithfuls leaving the party in droves- giving a major crack in the wall which affords the penetration of the opposition into the territories/ strongholds of the ruling party.
Similarly, the delay in payment of the workers in the service of the State was another major factor that caused a set- back. Though the salaries and allowances were cleared in arrears just days to the election, the gesture was not enough to pacify very many of the workers whose opinions had already been formed against the ruling party, notwithstanding the infrastructural development achieved by the incumbent governor.
All these brought to mind that:
1) a ruling party should carry everyone along and allow the wishes of the majority of the party members subsist. The nation' s democracy is growing and we are beginning to out-grow the era of candidates' imposition.Remember, a near - similar scenario caused the loss of a senatorial seat to the opposition;
2) all stakeholders and implementors of the Change Agenda should rise up to the occasion. The masses believed in PMB in 2015 so much that they voted for everything showcased on the platform.Now, the same masses will not hesitate to try other contenders should their immediate representatives ( governors and others alike) fail to deliver on key promises.Agreed there are projects implementation across the length and breadth of Osun State but the common worker also needs his salary to come regularly.
My appeal to all saddled with one position of leadership or the other in this dispensation is that they should not truncate the masses' hard-earned struggle for liberation; a liberation they paid dearly for before the current administration was legitimately brought in. The Change Revolution of President Muhammad Buhari has come to stay..Only those who will not work to keep the values of the Change so that it is nurtured to fruition might be left out of the train
We hope that all lessons have been learnt by the party executives and we pray for success at the polls when the runner- off election is conducted in the State of Osun so that the landmark achievements of the APC- led government can be consolidated.
Long live PMB, Long live APC
God Bless Nigeria.
