1) Friendliness and Congeniality. I think the most important characteristic of a good teacher can have is to be friendly and congenial with his students.
His friendliness should extend to the entire school community: parents, fellow staff members (teaching and non-teaching), the school owners etc
.
2).A Good Personality.
This is an important factor in the making of a reputable teacher, a teacher of quality.
The teacher should exhibit good personality which will make him/ her likeable and acceptable to the students,staff and parents alike.

3)..Deep Knowledge and a Great Education.
A good knowledge of subject matter is key to a teacher's rating.A teacher who has a good mastery of his subject matter exhudes confidence, radiates ebullience and commands respect before the world.
Mastery of subject matter comes through diligent and precise researches, sharing of ideas and.   of modern trends in educating.A knowledgeable teacher is not necessarily a first class product of a university but,a lover of knowledge.He is someone who learns and implement every good thing he comes across even if it is from his students.

4) Good Communicator.
Many have what to say but don't know how to put it. A good teacher must master the art of good public speaking. He must be able to communicate in simple but intelligible English.
Good communication stems from being a good reader, a listener to equally other good speakers. A good  listener will make a good speaker while a good reader will make a good writer.
Most importantly, the teacher should ensure that his speech is not marred by mother- tongue interference. He should look up and pronounce the English words appropriately.

5) A Good Listener.
Students will always have one complaints or the other. The teacher should listen and  attend to all students with equal interest.No showing of preference for one to the other.

6) A Good Sense of Humour.
Having a good sense of humour will make a teacher' s lesson very interesting.Students may want to turn every situation into a joke.The teacher should be in charge and ensure the class does not become a session of comedy.

7) Kindness.
A good teacher should be an epitome of kindness.He should have empathy with the children and ensure every child is attended to.

8) Resourceful.
A good teacher should be resourceful ; he should not wait for the school management to provide every resources.He should be ready to plan his lessons ahead and improvise.Where he is provided with resources,he should make good use of them and pack them up after use.A good teacher does not go looking for a resource material in the middle of the lesson,not even few minutes to the lesson.
